Random Picture 56

I'm doing two pictures of beverages in a row as random pictures but this one rather stands apart from last week's picture. This curious display of shapely water bottles was on offer at a shop for people that aims mostly for consumers that are young enough to be my offspring called Village Vanguard. Each is 367 yen ($4.50) for what looks to be less than 500 ml. I'm wondering if even these, with their hyper-inflated prices, sold out during the great radiative water fear of the past week.

Personally, I like how the price tag seems to be censoring the front of Superman's tights. ;-)

  1. Haha...wonder if that tag is there intentionally.

I like the gimmicky bottles with weird shapes. I believe a while ago I saw some beverage with a bottle shaped like a potion from Dragon Quest.

The drinks aren't anything special, but kind of cool to collect. I have a few of the final fantasy potions (with characters from various games on the can) hanging around my apartment.

  2. I love your blog, it's so much fun to get some inside information from a country so different from mine (I'm Swedish, but the same applies to basically every country that's NOT Japan^^) I want one of those bottles! Maybe not worth the money, but they are CUTE ;)

  3. The Hello Kitty one with her dressed as a Scottish Paul Stanley caught my eye, but ultimately, there's no place for more "stuff" in my apartment! However, I can see the appeal!

Thanks for your kind words, daedal!

  4. I wondered the same about the tag. Those Village Vanguard people do have a sense of humor. They made up Peko-chan like a vampire at one point...

I remember when the Final Fantasy potions were around, but they were too rich for my blood. ;-)

    Thanks for commenting!

  5. Thos remind me of character bubble baths sold in the US. I had one that was shaped like Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid, and it looked so odd with a cap for a head. There was a plastic head that went over the cap, but I lost it.

I would probably have been suckered into buying Final Fantasy Potion were I in Japan when it came out, but a friend of mine said it was just terrible.

  6. Amazing what shapes they can make plastic bottles in nowadays.
