Have you ever asked yourself what the next frontier in coffee should be? It already has had milk, sugar, and various flavors added to it. The beans are roasted to various shades and harvested from different areas of the world. You can eat the beans by themselves coated in various candies, you can steep them in water, and chill the result or consume it hot (but never, ever reheat it!). You can bake it into a muffin, add it to a brownie, even put it in sauces for savory dishes. There is one thing that I personally believe that you should not do to coffee, but clearly, Suntory begs to differ. I don't believe that you should ever carbonate it. This has to be one of the most disgusting concepts I've ever heard of. Now, I'll just wait for Suntory to perform the same evil on tea.

  1. ....Schweppes introduced a sparkling tea in Europe in 2010. I think I tried it about a year ago, (obviously not memorable I guess...)

  2. There was a special kind of Pop Rocks that was chocolate covered, it was bad. Probably as bad as the Espressoda; however I enjoy stouts that have a coffee-like taste. Those have the teensiest bit of carbonation that comes with heavy beers but not soda like. Sounds unappealing actually.

  3. Oh, the humanity! No, Schweppes, no! I think carbonating tea is probably a worse offense than doing it to coffee! ;-)

    Thanks for reading!

  4. I'd honestly try it. Sounds horrible but I'd give it a shot. It can't possibly taste too horrible.

  5. You probably missed this, but a few years ago, Coke came out with Coke Blak, which was a mix of Coke and coffee. It was marketed as a premium product and was served in glass bottles. Needless to say, it was awful.

  6. Pawawanpi: I think coffee drinks can be the greatest or the worst since coffee seems to be so dependent on temperatures. It could be pretty terrible, but I might have tried it, too. ;-)

Dennis: That sounds abysmal. Was that in Japan or another country?

  7. It was in the U.S., though I see from Wikipedia that it was released in Europe as well.

  8. I find it interesting that no one has mentioned the Manhattan Special, since people are discussing the United States... They've been making espresso soda for over 100 years.

  10. Russel: I had never heard of that stuff before! Sounds awful though. ;-)

OriginalZ: Thanks for letting us know what it's like, and making me glad I never had the chance to tr it!
