I've also recently acquired a spare box of the Tokyo regional rum raisin KitKat so it's time for a contest. Also, it is near the holiday season and wouldn't be a bad time to give something back to my readers. So, I'm running a contest to win a box of this special KitKat. It contains 12 individually wrapped mini bars, so you'll be winning enough to share with friends and family. It also seems somehow appropriate that a KitKat which is flavored with rum can be consumed around the New Year when liquor is freely flowing.
To enter the contest, leave a comment on this post only (comments on any other post will not be eligible) and tell me what you would most like to try among the items that I have reviewed (a stroll through the archives should jog your memory if you don't have one particular item that has stuck with you). In your comment, you can just say the name of the product or you can tell me more like why it is of interest to you. The more information, the better so don't be afraid to be verbose.
This contest will run until Christmas day when I will announce the winner.
I would love to try Koganei Imo, and it's probably the most difficult for me to get my hands on. I didn't get the chance to hit that part of town the last time I was in Tokyo, and I don't know when I'll be back.
ReplyDeleteYour description was so evocative--reading it again today, I can almost smell the cinnamon and feel the texture in my mouth. I love that it's handmade and not mass-produced (even if it means it's not as widely available), and I imagine that care really shines through in the quality of each cake. I can see allowing myself one cake a day with a nice, civilized cup of tea. Yum!
Probably the Kamome no Tamago. Despite the fact that I'm not a big fan of white chocolate or sweetend bean paste (white, red, or otherwise), your review has convinced me into wanting to at least try it. And despite the wealth of bean sweets I'm able to find around here, I haven't seen anything similar to them. Plus, I just really like the name!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try the Pepsi dry. I like the concept of a weaker cola and I've recently dropped regular for the carcinogenic diet coke.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to try the Starbucks Azuki Matcha Latte that you reviewed last December. The combination of green tea, frothed milk and red bean paste seems intriguing. I don't know whether I'd like it or not, though.
ReplyDelete"Extremely Spicy Mania" with Death Sauce
ReplyDeleteHow this product was made for the Japanese market and not the USA market is beyond me.
Love your blog! I am a avid foodie...esp snacking :) Kit kat has always been my favorite candy...there's something about being able to chip off the chocolate with my teeth, and separate each layer carefully to enjoy them bite by bite....mm. I noticed those Rilakumma kit kat with the strawberry cream and became curious. I mean, I love Rilakumma, and love strawberry, so instant win! I wish US kit kat would do more diverse and complex flavors, but I digress.
ReplyDeleteThanks for writing a thoroughly enjoyable blog :) I check it everyday.
I'm a big fan of your blog.
ReplyDeleteI'd really like to try "Blueberry Cheesecake KitKats". A regional variety makes it sound more special to me. Blueberry, cheese cake, and KitKats make a superb combination as they are among my favorite sweets of all.
You didn't review it, but I'd like to try the Pepsi Salted Watermelon to see if it actually tastes good to me. I love salt with my watermelons to bring out the sweetness, and I'd like to see if the drink replicates the taste at all.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try taiyaki since seeing your review of it honestly, a waffle/pancake filled with custard or white beans sounds delightful.
ReplyDeleteI loved the fish design too, so cool!
I'd like to try the chocolate covered potato chips, just because I'm pretty sure the sweet and salty flavors would be delicious together *0*
ReplyDeleteI really can't get that yuzu jam from a couple days ago out of my head though! It looked so yummy, and I've never tried yuzu, so that would be good too :d
I would really love to sample all the sembei products featured here! I'm also a fan of rice crackers, but the only flavors available to me are plain (salty), savory (maybe BBQ?) and salty-sweet.
ReplyDeleteI'm mostly curious about the taste of homemade sembei, the ones sold by street vendors.
Thank you for this contest, and thank you for continuing your blog even if you've already left Japan. I look forward to each new article. :)
No way I could choose, but one of them would be the Custard Purin Daifuku
ReplyDeletehttp://japanesesnackreviews.blogspot.com/search/label/purin
I would like to try these Kit Kats! I used to be pretty good about keeping up with the wacky flavors, but I've grown complacent in my old age. These look interesting and the box is cool :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try the Botan Rice Candy: http://japanesesnackreviews.blogspot.com.es/2012/06/botan-rice-candy.html, maybe not because of the flavour, but for the edible wrapper, I find that concept so awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteBecause I hate when you try to peel the paper out of a very sticky candy and you just say: "fu** it!" and eat the paper too xDDD
I'm another who wants to try the purin daifuku! Purin and daifuku are two of my favourite desserts, so a combo of the two would be great -- or so I figured, until I actually tried some one time and it was awful (way too sweet). However, since you liked the ones you tried, I'd love to try them as well. Maybe this brand is better.

ReplyDeleteI'd love to try the Kinako Sembei. I've tried various types of sembei before but not this type.
ReplyDeleteThe blueberry cheesecake KitKats: http://japanesesnackreviews.blogspot.com/2011/09/annin-dofu-and-blueberry-cheesecake.html
ReplyDeleteI live in the suburbs of Los Angeles, so I go to Little Tokyo fairly frequently, and several years ago I found a lemon cheesecake KitKat that was AMAZING. I'd love to see if the blueberry cheesecake flavor is even half as good!
I really want to try the mayonaise and cheese pringles. I am currently debating buying them on ebay haha.
ReplyDeleteI just love your blog! Over the years I've been following you, there have been any number of things I'd like to try, but the ones that stuck in my mind were the Fuya Fuya Marshmallow Cake, because they looked like the most delightful marshmallows imaginable, and the Excellent Cocoa Daifuku because, well, chocolate and mochi! Maybe it's just as well I don't live in Japan, I'd have obsessed about trying each of the treats you covered. As it is, I've greatly enjoyed the vicarious experience!
ReplyDeleteStarbucks Azuki Matcha Latte is something that caught my eye. I am neither a latte drinker or Starbucks consumer but on rare occasion when I have a gift card I do partake. I think the Azuki Matcha sounds like an interesting latte flavor to try. I have had the Green Tea Latte from Starbucks which I was a little displeased with. Starbucks is great for people that like their drinks heavy on the syrup and I think they killed the flavor of the Latte with too much sweetness. Starbucks should have a poll to see what international flavor people would like to try and offer it during a week at Starbucks.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many items I've wanted to try after reading through every post back in June of this year. Since you've come back to the states, I've been quick to go out and pick up anything that sounds interesting and I've had a lot of fun with it (though, I do often end up with half-eaten packages of snacks).
ReplyDeleteProbably the most exciting things I want to try are the Awashimado Adzuki Bean Boy Cakes or the Awashimado Adzuki Tart. I love red bean, cookie dough, and sponge cake, so both items seem ideal. I keep of picture of both items in my phone for reference any time I am in a Japanese market.
I'm a huge fan of the various kit kat flavors that get released (I've tried a lot of them!), but I think the Bacon Pretz from Feb 23rd, 2010 are probably the thing I most want to try at this point. I haven't seen many "interesting" flavors of Pretz over here in the US. :(
ReplyDeleteYour descriptions of Mont Blanc cake sound so excellent that I am going to try baking some myself. I hope it turns out well, even though I have no frame of reference having never actually eaten any. I'd like to try things flavored with kinako or yuzu as well.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try any of the mont blanc flavored snacks you have reviewed. Like you, I am a big fan of chestnut. It's really hard to find anything chestnut flavored in the US though, even with the abundance of Asian supermarkets in my area. Really not sure why it's not more popular...but I'd love to try the chestnut Pepsi, the Kitkat, the Pocky, and Tirol, etc. Really enjoy both of your blogs and have been a long time reader. First time commenter. :D
ReplyDeleteI would love to try the Genghis Khan Caramels... mostly because the name gave me the giggles when I read the review.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to try the Mister Donut Snow Doll Donut because it's perfect for this time of year, and it's filed with so much creamy goodness!! As well as the Shirakiki Kurogoma Daifuku because I'm always craving for a sweet chewy black sesame snack. Gosh I want black sesame ice cream, doughnut and cake right now! Thanks for the opportunity to join this contest. Your site is ever so entertaining and informative.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try Cratz, especially the smoky or spicy cheese flavours, the anchovy/garlic flavour or bacon pepper ones. I prefer savoury to sweet snacks and these look like they might be like the Snyder flavoured pretzels I love so much here in America. Every one of the flavours sounded delicous, and I would love to get my hands on some!
ReplyDeleteI like to try all the Kit Kats and hope I don't get cavities! :) I like cheese too, so I guess I want to try the cheese flavored Kit Kat the most. It doesn't sound too appealing but I'm very intrigued by it!
ReplyDeleteAnything matcha catches my eye -- however, anything rum raisin is also a draw -- really love the different regional flavors Japan comes up with for their Kit Kats and Doritos -- had fun on one visit to Japan, trying to find the most unusual of both. Wish they were more accessible in the US --
ReplyDeleteRincle Petit Cone Ice.
ReplyDeleteI like the cute many cones and the different flavors.
I am a contract worker for Nestle in the United States. As proud as I am that Nestle is the maker of Kit Kats, none of the fancy Japanese varieties are available for sampling in the company store. I would like to win these to sample with my coworkers who are also big Japanese culture fans to demonstrate how diverse the Japanese flavor market is. At the risk of being too general, any specially flavored Kit-Kats would do because they all sound very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try "Look Green Tea Chocolate" It sounds yummy to me :)
ReplyDeleteIf I could, I would try the Lotte Ryoma Sakamoto Yuzu cookies. You described yuzu as a cross between a grapefruit and a lemon, and I've never met a lemon cookie I didn't like. I also want to try the yuzu kitkats. They look tasty!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Japanese milk tea, so I'd want to try the Milk Tea Kit Kat - boring answer, I know, but it sounds so tasty!
ReplyDeleteI was intrigued by the Lotte Black Ghana you reviewed last year. I'd never heard of the Ghana brand until I tried a Ghana ice cream bar from a vending machine at Kyoto Station last year when visiting Japan. It was a weird hybrid, with 2/3 being an ice milk bar with milk chocolate and nut coating, and the bottom 1/3 an ice cream sandwich! I liked the chocolate flavors a lot, so hope to have the chance to try other Ghana products.
ReplyDeleteWish we could get a good variety of the unusual Japanese KitKats here in the U.S.!
