Random Weekend Picture 25

For the summer, Starbucks Japan is offering some exotic options. Since they accommodate English speakers by writing more of their advertising in English than in Japanese, I don't have to translate for my readers.

Mango continues to be the fruit du jour in Japan. Many things are sold in mango flavor including chocolates, but dried fruit tends to be one of the more popular ways for people to partake of it. While I like mango, I'm not really inclined to try that particular frappucino.

The other variety, yuzu green tea, is something I'm more drawn to. For those who don't recall or know, yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit which is a cross between a grapefruit and an orange. It's one of my favorite flavor enhancers in snacks and I've eaten it as a dried fruit and really enjoyed it. That being said, I probably won't buy this because I'm not a huge fan of green tea or drinking a ton of sugar. A short yuzu green tea frappucino weighs in at 130 calories and a venti at a whopping 270. It actually beats out the mango frappucino which comes in at 115 for a short and 240 for a venti.

I am finally going to Tokyo next week before I continue home to the states and I intend to find a Starbucks and try this delicious sounding Yuzu drink! I'll let you know how it is!

I stopped going to Japan in summer after August '04 and the insane temperatures Tokyo "enjoyed" that year (109F just about every day). This has meant I've missed out on a lot of great summer-only stuff, specifically foodstuff. ;) (Of course, I've also missed out on delicious fall offerings that debut literally the day after I leave. I might start taking it personally.)

I'd love to taste this yuzu green tea Frappuccino. Going by the color, it looks like it's much more yuzu than green tea; the green tea variety is very bright green. Why not try a short? We can't enjoy that tiny tasting size in the States, even though that's often all I want.

Me wants!
Sheesh, when I was there a couple of years ago I would have loved to slurp one of these down. Then again, I was broke and living off of 400 bucks a month so I probably wouldn't have been able to afford it...

I love yuzu (I live in Kochi where most of it is grown). The drinks here are great but mixed with green tea sounds disgusting. Why is everything got to be flavoured with ocha or macha?
