I used to think that the displays of soy milk flavors in Tokyo were a bit ridiculous. Do consumers really need the level of choice that tends to be displayed? In this picture, which by no means represents every possible option, we have chocolate, red bean soup (oshiruko), coffee, ginger, banana, sweet potato, green tea, black tea, chestnut, and various types of plain old soy milk. It seems, however, that the selection of soy milk seems to pale in comparison to the types of coffee creamer sold here in America (chocolate, vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, plain milk, mocha, amaretto, coconut, cinnamon, creme brulee, peppermint, pecan, pumpkin, etc.). I'm all for variety, but sometimes it seems that there's more to choose from than even the most fickle consumer should require.

Wow I didn't know there were so many soy milk flavors. Sometimes you wonder who would drink some of the weirder flavors but someone must be otherwise why would they make it.
Sweet potato soy milk?! Now that's exotic :D
I'm happy with the wide selection of soy milk available! In the states, you're stuck with ick strawberry, okay but too sweet chocolate/vanilla, and depending on the brand, high quality plain or unsweetened. The tea (white box) is my favourite. The one in the last row, 2nd from the left... not sure what flavour that is, but I'm sure it has aged garbage water in it. Ick.
I think the abundance of soymilks is a good thing. Dairy is inherantly bad for the human body ( sour acids form, creating a lot of health problems long term) but also soymilk is really tasty. These are nothing more than flavoured milks. Plant milk is a good thing.
My body does not play well with soy. Since coming back to the U.S., I've been drinking unsweetened almond milk which is more nutritious and low calorie/low sugar.
